Blood Grouping

There are four major blood groups and eight different blood types. Doctors call this the ABO Blood Group System. A blood group is a classification of blood based on the presence/ absence of antibodies and inherited antigenic substances on the surface of RBCs. Blood typing is done so you can safely receive or donate blood and also to see if you have a substance called Rh factor on the surface of your red blood cells.
